The primary objective of this program is to ensure students master academic content while simultaneously acquiring English proficiency. This holistic approach prepares students to transition seamlessly into a general education classroom, potentially with limited to no additional English language support. The instructional mediums include both Spanish and English, integrating English as a Second Language methodologies.

To be eligible for this program, students must achieve a literacy proficiency score ranging from 1.0 to 3.4, as assessed by either the initial WIDA screener or the literacy composite of the ACCESS evaluation.

The aim of this program is to offer structured English instruction, enabling students to confidently transition into a general education classroom with minimal or no additional English language support.

Instruction is delivered exclusively in English, tailored with modifications and supplemented by an ESL-certified teacher to ensure comprehensive understanding.

To be eligible for participation, students must achieve a literacy proficiency score between 3.5 and 6.0, as determined by either the initial WIDA screener or the literacy composite of the ACCESS assessment.

ESL Services for Non-Spanish-Speaking Students

The primary goal of this program is to offer structured English instruction, ensuring students are adequately prepared to transition into a general education classroom, potentially requiring minimal to no additional English language support.

Instruction is facilitated entirely in English. However, necessary modifications and supplementary assistance are provided by an ESL-certified teacher to guarantee each student's success.

Eligibility criteria for this program are as follows:

A literacy proficiency score between 1.0 and 6.0 

An overall composite score ranging from 1.0 to 4.7 on the ACCESS assessment or 1.0 to 4.9 when evaluated with the initial WIDA screener.

These students are placed in a Transitional Bilingual Education setting. This is a short-term designation for immigrated students by the Illinois State Board of Education.
 
Students receive English instruction with native language support, in addition to Spanish instruction.
This program is for recent immigrants to the U.S., with limited English proficiency that have been in the U.S. for less than three years, as well as an initial screen (WIDA) score of a literacy proficiency level 1.0-3.4

The purpose of this program is to address students' language learning and disability challenges simultaneously according to their IEPs.

English as a Second Language services are provided in self-contained classrooms by ESL endorsed classroom teachers or ESL resource teachers utilizing a push-in model for students in grades pre-K to 8.

Students may be mainstreamed into bilingual transitional classrooms for area/s of instruction.
Bilingual program assistants are available in the classrooms.

The purpose of the Dual Language Program is to:

1. Prepare students to compete nationwide and worldwide
2. Foster native language and reduce native language loss
3. Create a rigorous academic program which accelerates student learning
4. Develop high linguistic proficiency in two languages
5. Develop positive cross-cultural attitudes

The program is currently available in the following grades:

One-Way: Pre-K to 6th Grade

Two-Way: K to 6th Grade (Available only at Burnham, Cicero West, Columbus West, Drexel, Lincoln, and Sherlock)

Parents must attend a Dual Language Forum or have a meeting with the building administrator, as well as complete a Dual Language Survey.
