As March 3 marks the end of #ReadAcrossAmericaWeek, we're sharing a recap of some fun literacy-focused events that took place across District 99 this week:
On Wednesday, March 1, students and staff at Drexel Elementary School who were up for a little cosplay dressed up as The Cat in the Hat to celebrate author Dr. Seuss. Did you know — his birthday, March 2, marks the official Read Across America Day?
Also this past Wednesday, Roosevelt's Media Specialist Mary Clare Sabio hosted a special Reading Rocks Pizza Party, celebrating students who had read several Monarch, Bluestem and/or Caudill award-nominated book titles and completed written summaries for each book. Students not only enjoyed some pizza, but also showed off their dance moves and won some cool prizes!
On Friday, March 3, Burnham opened its doors to parents for a special family read aloud day, with parents and other family members participating in group reading activities with their children and their peers.
