Ms. Cardona, Ms. Cassell, Ms. Poleski, and Ms. Villarreal

Students in Ms. Cardona, Ms. Cassell, Ms. Poleski, and Ms. Villarreal's fifth grade classes joined together to participate in important social-emotional learning. In groups, students had to brainstorm bullying actions and behaviors that they see and write them on the outside of a person that they drew. On the inside they wrote actions, behaviors and words that promote caring, kindness and friendship. A discussion was had about how bullying behaviors can affect our emotions and can stick with us forever. Caring actions were promoted and the class came up with ways to make each other feel welcome and good about themselves.

At the end of the lesson, students participated in a fun team-building activity called LAVA. Students had to communicate and come up with strategies to get across the LAVA (gym floor). All the groups had to get their team members and all of their equipment across the gym floor without touching the LAVA.
