Bridging the generation gap

Ms. Brown and Ms. Larson

Students in Ms. Brown and Ms. Larson's service learning club spread some holiday cheer at the Town of Cicero's Senior Center.

The children performed carols and partnered with local seniors to play card games and win prizes at Christmas Bingo. The students also presented their partners with hand-painted ornaments and Christmas cards as a gift of kindness.

As part of their service learning, students discovered that youth and senior relationships have mutual social-emotional and health benefits. To bridge the generation gap, they interviewed the senior citizens to learn more about their lives, such as significant historical events and what it was like growing up and going to school.

Both age groups enjoyed the experience so much that they are looking forward to visiting again in the spring.
