Students in Ms. Ksiazek's fifth grade class are reading the book "Explorers of North America." The class had the opportunity to answer Depth of Knowledge questions using strategies like "Stand Up, Hand Up, Pair Up, and Think-Pair-Share. This gives all students an opportunity to share their thoughts and participate in discussions. In Language Arts, students are the authors of their own stories. They have been working on Small Moment Narratives that include things like well-developed characters, a describing a setting using their senses, dialogue, emotions, and a clear sequence of events. In Science, students are learning about the Three States of Matter and experimented by using a balloon to see how states of matter can be altered. Math Talks are being used to help students with their mental math skills. The talks also help the class articulate their thinking using math vocabulary.
