Fifth grade students in Ms. Holtz's class investigated what matter is made of in Science. Students wrote down what they thought happened to the salt when it was mixed with water. The salt dissolved in the water, and the particles of salt distributed themselves evenly throughout the water. They also studied the phenomenon of how a balloon changes size and shape when air is blown into it and then let out of the balloon. Students realized that air was a mixture of different gases, which is also one of the states of matter.
