Our Library and Media Centers are vibrant hubs of learning, where students are encouraged to explore books, spark curiosity, and build essential skills in research and digital citizenship. With access to diverse resources and personalized guidance, we help students become curious, confident, and capable learners.

Our mission is to foster a lifelong love of reading, promote strong information literacy, and ensure every student has equitable access to the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

Students can access eBooks, audiobooks, and research tools anytime through our digital library portal—just log in with your student credentials!

For students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, Media classes are designed to prepare them to navigate both school and public libraries, fulfill informational needs, and develop a deep appreciation for a wide range of literature and nonfiction texts.

Our instruction is guided by the I-SAIL (Illinois Standards Aligned Instruction for Libraries) framework, with a strong emphasis on critical thinking, responsible use of information, and digital safety. We also help students build research skills that will serve them well in high school and beyond.

To ensure growth and mastery of these standards, students complete pre- and post-assessments throughout the course.

Foundational Skills

Helping students understand that the media center—and the public library—are important places to fulfill both personal and educational informational needs. Students learn how to navigate and use the media center effectively, including understanding how resources are organized and how to access materials through online catalogs. In addition, we emphasize the importance of appropriate behavior in the media center and teach students how to properly care for library materials.

Information Literacy & Literature Appreciation

Helping students develop a strong foundation in information literacy and a lasting appreciation for literature, both for personal enjoyment and educational growth. Students build key information literacy skills while also exploring a wide range of literary and nonfiction formats. We support the development of effective reading strategies to promote comprehension and critical thinking. Additionally, students gain essential 21st-century learning skills through engaging, literacy-based activities that prepare them for success in an information-rich world.

Inquiry, Research & Digital Citizenship

Building strong information and technology skills through age-appropriate research models—introducing the "Super 3" process in grades K–3 and the "Big 6" in grades 4–6. Students learn to identify a problem or information need, determine the best resources, extract and organize relevant information, and evaluate both the final product and the research process. We also emphasize the importance of understanding intellectual property, fair use, and developing responsible digital citizenship and safe online practices.
