💻 COMING SOON: STUDENT CHROMEBOOK REFRESH
Cicero District 99 Families and Staff,
Tentatively, in late March and early April, Cicero District 99 will be beginning the rollout of new Chromebooks for students in grades K-7 across the district.
Why new Chromebooks?
The District wants to ensure that students are equipped with fast, reliable technology, and current devices have reached the end of their useful life.
What will the new Chromebooks come with?
The latest model of student Chromebooks will be equipped with updated hardware and software suitable to handle all of the District’s educational programs.Â
Will Chromebooks still come with a zippered case and strap?
No — instead, devices will come with a new, hard-shell and snap-on protective case to increase durability.
When will my child receive their new Chromebook?
Families will be required to complete a loan agreement to initiate deployment of a new device.Â
The goal is to roll out new Chromebooks to students this spring. Devices will be handed out at each school on the school’s scheduled date. Details for deployment, including dates, will be communicated by your child’s school administration via ParentSquare.Â
What does my child need to do in order to receive their new Chromebook?
In order for students to receive their new device and charger, they will need to bring their current device and charger to class on the collection/deployment date assigned for their building.Â
My child is in eighth grade — will they receive a new device?
No — current eighth-grade students will keep their current devices through the end of the school year, and must return their device and charger at end-of-the-year collection.Â
My child is in pre-K — how does this process apply to them?
As aligned with device usage guidelines, pre-K students will not be issued their own device.Â
✅ REMEMBER — STUDENT ACCOUNTABILITY MATTERS!
In an effort to decrease the volume of damage seen in student Chromebooks and increase accountability for student responsibility of devices:
Students will be issued one Chromebook, which will be the same device they will keep for the next four school years.
In the event a student damages their device, a temporary device will be issued while the device is repaired. The original device will be returned to the student following the repair.
If it is determined by District officials that the device/software/equipment, or any component thereof, has been damaged through normal every day use, wear and tear, the District will repair or replace the device/software/equipment at no cost to families; however, if District officials determine that the device/software/equipment has been stolen, lost, or damaged through negligence or misuse, it will be the responsibility of the family to pay the full cost of repair or pay ($363) for a replacement device/software/equipment.
We look forward to continuing to provide all of our students with upgraded technology to provide them with the connectivity to remain engaged in school.
