Strategic Plan

A

Strategic Plan

Beginning in May 2021, Cicero District 99 began gathering input from all stakeholders—community members, parents, staff, and students—to develop a new strategic plan. Staff were first surveyed to identify five key focus areas: communication, relationships, assessment, foundational skills, and mental health. In December 2021, staff were asked for specific actions to improve each category. Parents and community members were then surveyed to identify district priorities for the next 3–5 years. In April 2022, the District hosted in-person town halls for open discussion with leadership. Students were also surveyed and participated in focus groups to share ideas about classroom experience, food, furniture, field trips, uniforms, and rewards. Finally, a Strategic Planning Committee—comprising (5) district leaders, (2) board members, (17) staff, and (16) parents—reviewed all stakeholder feedback to create four strategic goal statements.

Sustaining A Better Cicero

Cicero District 99 believes in improving the quality of our lives, protecting our ecosystem, and preserving natural resources for future generations.

Overcast sky above a green roof with trees in the background.

To help reduce energy usage and create a healthy habitat for all, we have invested in green roofs on top of our buildings. They coof off our roofs, provide shade, thermal mass & insulation. Green roofs also provide new urban habitat for plants & animals, increasing biodiversity. Lasting twice as long as coventional roofs!

An empty basketball court with shiny wooden flooring and overhead lighting.

We invested in LED Highbays in gymnasiums with advanced lighting controls on each light which drastically declined light usage! In addition to lowering energy costs & reducing our carbon footprint, this upgrade gives far superior quality light output & ultimately leads to safer & more illuminated surfaces for students.

A modern water bottle filling station with a sensor activated feature.

We’ve also cut down on plastic waste by installing water bottle filling stations in all our buildings. These stations provide great-tasting water for students and staff while encouraging everyone to use reusable bottles on the go—promoting sustainability and healthier hydration habits for all!
