D99's Very Own: Andrea Lacey
“I love that schools prioritize social/emotional learning. Back in the day when I was in school, I don’t remember ever talking about that. I think now we’ve opened up the conversation and I like to think support is offered for all students and our families, whether it’s inside or outside of school.” -Andrea Lacey, social worker at Burnham
These days, it seems like mental wellness and discussions around mental health are buzzing in communities and schools across the U.S. — and that's a great thing.
That's why when Andrea Lacey, a social worker at Daniel Burnham Elementary School, was recognized as D99's Very Own at last week's Board of Education meeting, it was important to recognize the meaningful work she does day in and day not to not only support Cicero students, but their families as well.
In her role, Lacey not only helps support student mental health and academic success, but she is a steadfast supporter of social/emotional development skills that students can take well beyond their childhood years.
