❤️ 🖤 D99 OFFICES AND BUILDINGS CLOSED JUNE 19 FOR JUNETEENTH 💛 💚

Posted Date: 06/19/26 (07:30 AM)

As we observe Juneteenth Freedom Day, Cicero District 99 offices and buildings will be closed on Friday, June 19. Regular operations will resume on Monday.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom, marking the final enforcement of emancipation in the United States. While rooted in a specific moment in history, Juneteenth carries a broader meaning that speaks to the American experience itself.

At its heart, Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom. It reminds us that the principles upon which our nation was founded — liberty, equality, and opportunity — have challenged each generation to move closer to making those ideals a reality for all people. It is a day to recognize the enduring responsibility we share to treat one another with dignity, respect, and humanity.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, we honor the resilience and perseverance of those who endured injustice, celebrate the expansion of freedom in America, and reflect on the values that continue to unite us!
