🌟 PBS STARTS AT SCHOOL — BUT IT DOESN'T STOP THERE! 🌟

Roosevelt Elementary School recently kicked off the school year with their PBS Kick-Off Assembly, challenging students to "Stay Gold" by practicing the 3 Gs: Grit, Gratitude, and Grace!

Students talked about what it means to show grit by continuing to work toward a goal when things get difficult, practice gratitude by appreciating the people and things in their lives, and demonstrate grace through kindness, patience, compassion and helping others.

And while the 3Gs are Roosevelt's way of bringing these important lessons to life, the bigger message belongs to all of Cicero District 99.

Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) is an important part of every one of our schools — and our families are an important part of making it work.

The behaviors and values our students practice during the school day become even stronger when they hear those same messages at home. When a child wants to give up on something difficult, encourage them to keep trying. When someone helps your family, talk about gratitude. Recognize moments of kindness, patience, respect and responsibility. Celebrate the good choices that sometimes seem small — because repeated every day, those choices become habits.

At Roosevelt, staff members will even be on the lookout for students demonstrating the 3Gs and recognizing those positive moments with "Glimmer" tickets. The idea is simple: catch our students doing something right.

That is something every one of us can do.

So, District 99 families, we're asking you to partner with us. Talk about positive behavior at home. Notice it. Name it. Encourage it. Celebrate it. Ask your child what PBS looks like at their school and what expectations they are working on this year.

Because creating safe, positive and welcoming schools isn't something our teachers and staff can accomplish alone.

It takes all of us — students, staff and families — working together.
