🎓 THEY WALKED IN HOLDING HANDS... NOW THEY'RE LEAVING READY FOR 1ST GRADE: D99 KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATIONS STOLE THE SHOW! 🥹
There are moments in a school year that remind us why schools are so much more than buildings.
This week, gyms and cafeterias across Cicero District 99 were filled with proud smiles, happy tears, nervous giggles, and the unmistakable sound of tiny voices singing their hearts out as our schools hosted their Kindergarten Celebrations.
And while these students may only be moving on to 1st grade, anyone who sat in those packed audiences knows it felt like something much bigger.
Families filled our spaces shoulder to shoulder, phones raised high to capture every song, every wave, every proud smile. Some students stood a little taller wearing their celebration outfits. Others searched the crowd for mom, dad, grandma, or grandpa before beaming with excitement once they found them.
Then came the songs.
With every lyric sung just a little to loudly, every hand motion slightly out of sync, and every giant smile stretched across tiny faces, these children reminded everyone in the room of something beautiful: growth happens quietly... until suddenly, it doesn't.
The same children who walked into school months ago holding tightly to a parent's hand are now reading stories, making friends, learning routines, building confidence, and standing bravely in front of hundreds of people.
One by one, students crossed the stage to receive awards recognizing not just academic milestones, but courage, kindness, perseverance, friendship, and joy. And in those moments, you could see it on the faces of families and staff alike — overwhelming pride.
Because Kindergarten is never just Kindergarten. It is the year of firsts. First teachers. First friendships. First school pictures. First time learning to believe in themselves.
And for many families, these celebrations marked the first moment they truly realized just how fast childhood moves.
Across District 99, our teachers, support staff, and families worked together all year long to help these students grow into confident, curious learners ready for the next chapter. The result was on full display this week in every song sung, every certificate handed out, and every child walking off stage with a smile that said, "I did it."
To our Kindergarten students: we are so proud of you.
And to the families wiping away tears in the audience — don't worry, everyone noticed.
Congratulations to the Cicero District 99 Class of Future Leaders as they take their next big step into 1st grade! ❤️
