HONORING LIFE THROUGH ARTISTIC TRIBUTE: D99 CELEBRATES WITH ANNUAL DIA DE MUERTOS EVENT 💀🎃

Music, art, dance and family bonding took center stage Saturday morning at Unity Junior High School as Cicero District 99 students, staff, and families pulled out all the stops for the District's annual Día de Muertos celebration.

Continuing in the District's tradition of unforgettable holiday events, Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is an annual event hosted in special tribute to remember and celebrate those who will forever hold a place in hearts of families across Cicero.

Featuring a catrina (iconic Mexican skeleton) costume contest, live music, folkloric dancing, arts and crafts and a community resource fair,  Día de Muertos is just another way the District works to honor Latin American heritage, teach world history and cultural traditions, and provide a supportive space for students to remember deceased family members. This holiday provides a structured, non-frightening way to talk about loss, showing students — and families — they aren't alone in their feelings, whether they be grief or elation, in remembering the lives of those no longer with us.
