What do wide-eyed preschoolers, proud sixth graders, and parents dancing with their children have in common?

They were all part of an incredible month of music at Drexel Elementary School!

It started with a short walk and a BIG impression!

Continuing a beloved annual tradition, Drexel's band students, led by Mr. Josh Lopez, traveled just one block to the Early Childhood Center to perform for some of our district's youngest learners.

And the reactions were priceless! 🥹

Little ones clapped along, watched in amazement, and even tried imitating the musicians themselves!

But here's what made the visit so special. Our older students weren't just playing instruments. They were becoming role models, showing younger children what's possible as they grow, learn, and discover new talents.

And the music didn't stop there!

Back at Drexel, sixth graders, guided by Ms. Trisha Keegan, welcomed their families for a first-quarter music concert filled with instruments, storytelling, and movement!
Students brought a story to life through music, moved between instruments with carefully choreographed transitions, and demonstrated the creativity, coordination, listening, and teamwork they've been developing in class.

But the biggest smiles may have come at the very end!

Students invited their families to join them for a dance, even teaching them the moves! There was a little hesitation at first, but soon the room was filled with laughter, dancing, and memories being made together.

And that's what makes music education so special.

It's not just about learning notes, rhythms, or instruments. It's about building confidence, discovering creativity, inspiring others, and finding joy in something you can share.

From little learners watching in wonder to families dancing side by side, these experiences remind us that some of the most meaningful lessons happen when students get to share what they've learned with others.

👏 A huge thank-you to everyone involved for making these experiences possible!

Because long after the final note is played, the memories, confidence, and connections remain.
